We pulled in to the Kea'au Shopping
Center at about 7:00 pm on a Friday night. Our destination
Captain Chris' Paradise Bar & Grill. Sorry we couldn't
find a website.
There generally isn't much going on out here in Puna
as far as night life goes with the exception of a few
places in Pahoa and Capt. Chris' in Kea'au.
As we were driving in we heard a commercial on our favorite
station, B97 Hawaii's Classic Rock, informing us that
the Chris Scott Band would be performing, as they do
every Friday night, and Fried Catfish & Okra were
on the menu.

The place was jumpin'. Standing room
only and a good 30 minute wait for a table.
Now you have to imagine what it must have been like
walking in to a bar with a couple gnomes. Tony mumbled
something about all off us getting our butt's kicked.
But instead...
RG and Bud were overwhelmed by the out pouring of aloha
they received from everyone. Seems like we must've taken
100 pictures of RG & myself with the bars patrons.
After a short time people were actually looking for
us and started calling Tony "The Travelocity Guy".
He explained that he did not work for Travelocity and
people would then say "Why are you doing this then?"
A perfect opportunity to tell them about my story. It
was very exciting and we felt the buzz of the place
increase as we moved from table to table being photographed.
We ran in to a gal named Hopper & her husband Harley.
Hopper painted the backdrop on the stage and invited
us to come over and check out her stuff, as well as
her famous, Dubie...lol.

After a time Tony requested a table
for us and we ordered our dinner. RG and I had the catfish
& okra, which was quite delicious. Even as we sat
waiting for our food and then dining, people were coming
up and requesting to have a picture taken.
Our lovely waitress was running running running but
took a moment to be photographed serving up ole RG.
People were trying to give Tony money for the pictures
and he refused, mostly. A few people insisted so RG
suggested we just add it to the waitresses tip, which
we did. Wasn't alot but we hope we made her day.
We saw a familiar face or 2. Ran in to JG the surfboard
shaper we met at the Farmers Market and also Lori the
bus driver that nearly busnapped us at Lava Tree State
Park.

RG really got caught up in the music
when ZZ Tops Tush started jamming. After a while he
just had to hit the dance floor. We captured this on
video.

Chris Scott
and his wife are born hosts and party makers. The excitement
& buzz they generate by passing around free food
and shots on occasion really gets the crowd going.
Chris and his band rock the stage during dinner on Friday's
with a variety of classic rock tunes that are undeniable
toe tappers to get you up out of your seat. Just plain
ole good fun and there is pretty much live entertainment
here EVERY night!
Chris Scott
is the son of Randolph
C. Scott a famous
(in case you didn't know this) western hero actor who
also performed in various other comedy & dramatic
roles during his 30 years career. Click on the link
above for more info on Wikipedia cause there is sure
lots of it! Wow!
Chris has written a book called "Whatever
Happened to Randolph Scott" available on Amazon.com.
Read the reviews and you'll wanna read the book for
sure but it isn't cheap and I saw one for over $200!
Must be rare.
After about 3 hours of non stop photo ops it was time
to call it a day. RG was overwhelmed by the aloha he
felt tonight! Thank you to all of those that were photographed
with!

Chris & staff I wanna thank
you for your generosity and allowing me to roam the
crowd with the gnomes.
I felt a tremendous energy and sense of aloha from all
(well most) of the patrons. By the time I got home I
was exhausted but uplifted and exhilarated by the whole
experience.
The Paradise Bar & Grill is awesome and it is because
of you guys.
MAHALO!
