Kickin In Kapoho

So what is there to do in Puna you may ask or not? Well quite honestly not a whole lot.

The area is primarily agricultural and much of what Hawaii is famous for is grown here. Macadamia nuts, tropical plants & flowers and even coffee. The climate is just the right combination of sun, rain & humidity.

So many people just kick it at the local beach parks or along the coast and bust out the cooler. We decided we'd kick it here in Kapoho at the tide pools.

Luckily RG had retained his life gaurd watch skills just in case Moa got in danger again and floated away. "Life is sure is tough for a space chicken" commented RG.

The Kapoho area is simply beautiful. You can find awesome vacation rentals down here like the Rabbit & Dragon. That's the place we mentioned during Aimee from Atlanta's visit. It's got it's own private geothermal pool in the back yard. Actually the pool is the back yard.

Also the Rainbow Bliss owned by Star, which you can often find on Craigslist or Ebay under the user id sold with love. RG stayed there for a few nights and really recommended its smashing decor!

Ok so the Kapoho Tide Pools on the coast are a well known spot for snorkeling here in Puna. Most days the weather is perfect and the sky is reflected on the pools.

RG had looked at a tourist book called "Hawaii the Big Island Revealed" while on the plane over that highly recommended the experience.

He magically produced the mask above. (Courtesy of the Travelocity credit card he exclaimed.) I gotta get me one of those.

He yelled "Tally Ho" and dived in hat first just barely avoiding being stuck upside down hat first. What a site that'd have been.

We all sat on the shore and watched him frolic about in the water for a good 45 minutes.

As we were leaving I spotted this killer bike sitting in the parking lot. We looked around for the owner but couldn't find the owner. We did, however, notice a sticker that said Tiki Biker Association.

We headed next to a very serene Japanese cemetery to end our day. Moa quietly chattered about how very lucky he is to have been rescued by us gnomes. Matter of fact he was quietly clucking to himself for the majority of the day.

In the distance the sun was leaving its last reflections on the water and we all gazed in silence over the barren lava field at the ocean.

"So this is Puna." exclaimed RG. "It's peaceful here."

"Yep" was my only reply.
