| First
things first - Tony met Aimee (aka Punagirl) & Bob while they were vacationing
in Puna a month or so ago. Bob & Punagirl like to travel as often
as possible. Punagirl is a diehard Black Crowes fan and Bob is a metal maniac
that loves to talk about Judas Priest. Thanks for the Crowes shirt (which I am
wearing on my personal MySpace profile) and I am still waiting for those cd's
BOB. | |

|
| There
are numerous geothermal warm ponds in the Puna area, especially on the coast in
Kapoho. Bob & Punagirl rented a place called The
Rabbit & Dragon Cottage in Kapoho.
I don't know about the rest of the rentals down there but this one has it's very
own pond! I think I floated around in this thing for a good 4 hours.
They had a nice, relatively calm birthday party for Bob in which they invited
many of the folks they had met during previous trips to Puna. It was
very cool partying with these guys and I highly recommend looking in to this rental
if you are going to stay on the island. And now to the Atlanta visit... |

| At
this point it had been a relatively uneventful couple weeks in Atlanta (sigh)
but all of that changed once we met up with Punagirl. They had just gotten
back from their Hawaii vacation and she was working hard to catch up before the
Christmas holiday. I was enlisted to man the phones and Tiki Jr. was
given the task of paper clip sorting. Being outgoing I had no problem playing
secretary for a few hours. Tiki Jr. on the other hand... |
|
| |
| |
| ...got
a little bored with all the files, phones & paper clips. He was in the other
room and very quiet for a long time so I decided to check on him. Always
looking for a little mischief he was trying to figure out how to photocopy his
okole to which I assisted him. We must have made 50 copies and put them in to
everyone's in-boxes! Punagirl was not amused as she walked around removing
them and asked us to please go wait in the car until she had finished working.
The office staff were quite amused I must say. Yeah I know it was bad but we couldn't
resist. | |

|
| After
a hard morning's work, Punagirl & Bob took us for a real Southern lunch at
a place called the Silver Grill in midtown Atlanta. It has been open & family
owned since 1945. One of the waitresses is an original employee. It is
a cute little diner. In Atlanta they refer to these as a "meat & three".
Punagirl had me order the same thing she gets: fried chicken, turnip greens, string
beans & white corn. After we ate I shared peach cobbler & ice cream with
them. It was really fun. Every one in the place knew each other. People
were really warm & friendly, almost like the island of Hawaii. Punagirl said
the chicken is second only to her grandmas. Man, I want to eat at grandma's!
On December 22, The Silver Grill, closed it's doors for good. Sad really
but a sign of the times I guess.

After a filling lunch we headed over to their house for a relaxing evening listening
to the Crowes sing and getting to know each other. They have 3 dog friends
named Lola, Pearl & Ozzy. Lola, above, was not all that excited about meeting
us and let us know it. | |
| |
|
|
| Pearl,
on the other hand, came right up and gave us a sniff of general disdain and walked
away. Hmmm...batting zero.
| |
|
|
| Then
we met the Ozzmeister! He is one cool pooch! He introduced us to his stuffed ferret
and we settled in to an evening of discussing our favorite Black Sabbath &
Ozzy tunes. We both agreed that Supernaut, Iron Man & War Pigs are our favorite
Sabbath tunes and that Blizzard of Oz is an Ozzy classic. This pooch has been
to Ozzfest 4 times! I'm jealous! (Photos:
